Tour Overview

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's oldest and largest protected area, spanning nearly 4,000 square kilometres in the northwestern part of the country. At its heart lies the mighty Nile River, which explodes through a narrow 7-metre gap in the Rift Valley escarpment, plunging 43 metres into a frothing pool below—creating the most powerful waterfall in the world by volume of water.

This 4-day tour is tailored for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers alike. The park is home to over 76 mammal species and a staggering 450 bird species, making it one of Africa's premier birding destinations. Over four days, you will navigate the Nile on a boat cruise to the base of the falls, where hippos, crocodiles, and elephants gather on the riverbanks. You will also explore the open savannah of the Buligi Peninsula, tracking lions, giraffes, buffaloes, and leopards, while keeping an eye out for the rare shoebill stork, the park's most sought-after bird.

With its dramatic landscapes, thundering waterfalls, and abundant wildlife, Murchison Falls offers a quintessential Ugandan safari experience—combining river, forest, and savannah ecosystems into one unforgettable journey.

Depart from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. Drive northwest through the districts of Luwero, Nakasongola, and Masindi, passing through rural villages, pineapple plantations, and the famous Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (optional stop).

Midday (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM):
Stop for lunch en route at a restaurant or picnic spot.

Afternoon (2:00 PM – 5:00 PM):
Continue to the park, entering through the Kichumbanyobo gate. As you approach, you may spot baboons, warthogs, and waterbucks along the roadside.

Evening (6:00 PM):
Arrive at your lodge or campsite near the park headquarters at Paraa. Check in, freshen up, and enjoy dinner overlooking the Nile.

Day 2

Day 2: Day 2: Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Afternoon Boat Cruise to the Falls

Early Morning (6:30 AM – 10:30 AM):
Wake up early for a game drive on the Buligi Peninsula. This savannah area between the Victoria Nile and Lake Albert is renowned for its high concentration of wildlife. Look out for lions, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, Jackson's hartebeests, and warthogs. Early morning is also the best time for birdwatching, with species like the secretary bird, Abyssinian ground hornbill, and black-bellied bustard.

Midday (10:30 AM – 12:30 PM):
Return to the lodge for brunch and some rest.

Afternoon (2:00 PM – 5:00 PM):
Embark on a 3-hour boat cruise upstream along the Victoria Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. This is the park's highlight—you will glide past pods of hippos, massive Nile crocodiles, and elephants and buffaloes drinking on the banks. The cruise ends at the bottom of the falls, where you can feel the spray and thunder of the water crashing through the 7-metre gap. Keep your camera ready for the African fish eagles soaring overhead.

Evening (6:30 PM):
Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 3

Day 3: Day 3: Day 3: Hike to the Top of the Falls & Delta Cruise for Shoebills

Morning (8:00 AM – 10:30 AM):
After breakfast, drive to the top of Murchison Falls. Take a guided walk along the edge of the escarpment to the viewpoint where the Nile compresses into the narrow gorge. Watch the powerful torrent of water explode downstream—an awe-inspiring sight. The hike also offers excellent birdwatching opportunities.

Midday (11:00 AM – 12:30 PM):
Return to the lodge for lunch.

Afternoon (1:30 PM – 4:30 PM):
Take a boat cruise to the Delta—where the Victoria Nile meets Lake Albert. This area is a birdwatcher's paradise and the best spot in Uganda to sight the elusive shoebill stork. Other species you may encounter include the Goliath heron, saddle-billed stork, yellow-billed stork, and African skimmer. You may also see hippos, crocodiles, and waterbucks along the shore.

Evening (6:00 PM):

Return to the lodge for a full breakfast and check-out.

Late Morning (11:00 AM – 6:00 PM):
