Hajj
Hajj is one of the 5 pillars of Islam done annually by capable and financially able Muslims. its only performed in several specific sacred areas in Makkah from 8th to 13th in the month of Dhul Hijja on the Islamic calendar . Performing Hajj involves core rituals like donning ihram, performing Twawaf ,swafaa and marwah , Staying in Mina ,Standing in Arafat, Sleeping in Muzdalifah, Stoning Jamarat ,Slaughtering a sacrificial animal where need be, Twawaf- al widaa, Trimming ones hair.
There are 3 types of Hajji in Islam that is Tamattu’, Qiran and Ifrad identified by how Hajj is Combined with Umrah.
For Hajj Tamattu’ is the most common where one performs Umrah during the Hajj month then leaves the state of ihram and later enters the state of Ihram to perform Hajj only. For Hajj Qiran, Umrah and Hajj are combined without breaking the state of ihram . For Hajj ifrad , the pilgrims enters the state of ihram to perform Hajj only and stays in that state until the Hajj rituals are completed.
For Hajj Tamattu’ and Qiran a sacrificial animal is required at the end of the rituals which is not the case for Hajj Ifrad
Umrah
Umrah is a sacred non obligatory pilgrimage to makkah by Muslims performed all year round involving four main pillars that is Entering the state of Ihram, Performing Twawaf, Walking between Swafaa & Marwah and shaving or trimming hair.
Before entering the state of ihram to perform Hajj or Umrah, someone must bring the intention before leaving the miqat .The intention should be in this form. LABBAIKA ALLAHUMMA UMRAH for Umrah and for Hajj LABBAIKA ALLAHUMA HAJJA. There after you start uttering the Talibya [LABBAIKA ALLAHUMMA LABBAIK, LABBAIKA LAA SHARIIKA LAKA LABBAIK, INNAL HAMDA WANNI’IMATA LAKA WAL MULK LAA SHARIIKA LAKA. ] Until you see the Kaaba .
Performing Hajj & Umrah should be entirely for the sake of Allah as elaborated in Quran(2:196).
