Tour Overview
Masai Mara National Reserve is Kenya's most celebrated wildlife destination and one of Africa's premier safari experiences. Spanning over 1,500 square kilometres of rolling savannah, acacia-dotted plains, and winding riverine forests, the Mara is famous for its exceptional predator sightings and the annual Great Migration—one of the natural world's most spectacular events.
This 4-day safari is designed for travellers who want to focus on the Mara's most iconic residents: its big cats. Lions lounge in the golden grass, leopards rest in the branches of sausage trees, and cheetahs sprint across the open plains in pursuit of Thomson's gazelles. Beyond the cats, the Mara supports an extraordinary concentration of wildlife—elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, and hippos are all abundant.
With comfortable lodge accommodation, private game drives, and expert guiding, this tour offers the quintessential East African safari experience. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a seasoned wildlife enthusiast, four days in the Masai Mara promises drama, beauty, and unforgettable encounters with Africa's most magnificent predators.

Pick-up from your hotel in Nairobi. After a safari briefing, depart for the Masai Mara. The drive takes you through the Great Rift Valley, with a stop at the viewpoint for breathtaking panoramic photos.
Midday – Afternoon (12:30 PM – 3:00 PM):
Stop for lunch en route at a lodge or restaurant. Continue the journey, arriving at the Masai Mara in the early afternoon. Check into your lodge or tented camp.
Late Afternoon (4:00 PM – 6:30 PM):
Embark on your first afternoon game drive. The Mara's open plains offer excellent wildlife viewing from the start—look for lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and Thomson's gazelles. The golden evening light is perfect for photography.
Evening (7:00 PM):
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Day 2: Day 2: Masai Mara – Full Day Game Drive & Big Cat Hunting
Early Morning (6:00 AM – 9:00 AM):
Rise before dawn for a sunrise game drive. This is the best time to spot predators on the hunt. Watch for lions stalking prey, cheetahs surveying the plains from termite mounds, and leopards returning from their nocturnal hunts. The early light is also ideal for photography.
Morning – Midday (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM):
Continue exploring different sectors of the reserve. The Mara's open grassland and scattered acacia trees provide excellent visibility. Look for the distinctive black-maned lions of the Mara—famous for their impressive manes.
Midday (12:30 PM – 3:00 PM):
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush or return to the lodge for a hot meal and rest during the heat of the day.
Late Afternoon (3:30 PM – 6:30 PM):
Head out for a second game drive. Explore the Mara River area, where hippos wallow in the shallows and enormous Nile crocodiles bask on the banks. If you're visiting during the migration season (July – October), you may witness thousands of wildebeest crossing the river.
Evening (7:00 PM):
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Day 3: Day 3: Masai Mara – Full Day Game Drive or Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari
Early Morning (5:00 AM – 9:00 AM) – Optional:
For an unforgettable experience, book a hot air balloon safari. Launch at sunrise and drift silently over the Mara plains, watching wildlife from above as the sun illuminates the landscape. After landing, enjoy a champagne breakfast in the bush (pre-book required, not included in the tour price).
Morning (If not ballooning – 6:30 AM – 9:30 AM):
Enjoy a regular morning game drive, focusing on areas you haven't explored yet. The Mara's western corridor and the Olare Orok Conservancy are excellent spots for leopard sightings.
Midday (9:30 AM – 3:00 PM):
Return to the lodge for a late breakfast, followed by lunch and relaxation. The lodges often have pools and viewing decks where wildlife wanders nearby.
Late Afternoon (3:30 PM – 6:30 PM):
Head out for an evening game drive. This is a great time to witness predators becoming active again. You may see a lioness leading her pride to hunt as the sun sets. Keep your camera ready for dramatic silhouettes against the African sky.
Evening (7:00 PM):
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Day 4: Day 4: Morning Game Drive – Return to Nairobi
Early Morning (6:00 AM – 9:00 AM):
Enjoy a final morning game drive. This is your last chance to spot any wildlife you may have missed—perhaps a leopard draped over a branch or a cheetah family resting in the grass. The morning light offers beautiful photo opportunities one last time.
Midday (9:00 AM – 11:00 AM):
Return to the lodge for a full breakfast and check-out. Pack your belongings and prepare for the journey back.
Late Morning – Afternoon (11:00 AM – 5:00 PM):
Begin the drive back to Nairobi. Stop for lunch en route. The journey takes you back through the Great Rift Valley, offering a final view of Kenya's stunning landscapes.
