Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Day 1: Day 1: Mombasa / Nairobi – Transfer to Amboseli National Park
Morning (6:00 AM – 7:00 AM):
Pick-up from your hotel in Mombasa, Diani, or Nairobi. Your driver-guide will provide a safari briefing before departure.
Late Morning – Midday (7:00 AM – 12:30 PM):
Drive south toward Amboseli National Park. The route passes through the scenic Athi Plains and Maasai countryside, with occasional wildlife sightings along the way. Arrive at the park's Kimana Gate in time for lunch.
Afternoon (12:30 PM – 3:00 PM):
Check into your luxury lodge or tented camp, set against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Enjoy a gourmet lunch and some rest during the midday heat.
Afternoon (3:00 PM – 6:00 PM):
Embark on your first afternoon game drive. Amboseli's short-grass plains and swamp channels are home to massive elephant herds, lions, buffaloes, cheetahs, and zebras. The late afternoon light against Kilimanjaro offers extraordinary photo opportunities.
Evening (6:30 PM):
Return to the lodge for sundowners, dinner, and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Day 2: Day 2: Amboseli – Full Day Game Drives & Big Tusker Encounters
Early Morning (5:45 AM – 9:00 AM):
Rise before dawn for a sunrise game drive. This is Amboseli's most magical hour—the mountain is often clear only during the first hours after sunrise before clouds form. Watch as elephant family groups move along the swamp corridors, their silhouettes framed against the glowing summit of Kilimanjaro.
Midday (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM):
Return to the lodge for a late breakfast and time to relax by the pool. Many luxury lodges offer views of the mountain and waterholes where wildlife comes to drink.
Afternoon (12:30 PM – 3:30 PM):
Enjoy lunch at the lodge, followed by rest during the heat of the day.
Late Afternoon (3:30 PM – 6:30 PM):
Head out for a second game drive, exploring different areas of the park. Visit Observation Hill for panoramic views over Amboseli's swamps and dry lakebeds. Look for the famous "big tuskers"—old bull elephants with ivory so long it touches the ground.
Evening (7:00 PM):
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Day 3: Day 3: Amboseli – Transfer to Tsavo West – Mzima Springs & Volcanic Landscapes
Morning (6:00 AM – 8:30 AM):
Enjoy a final morning game drive in Amboseli for one last encounter with elephants beneath Kilimanjaro. Return for breakfast, then check out of the lodge.
Late Morning – Midday (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM):
Drive northeast toward Tsavo West National Park. The journey takes you through the base of the Chyulu Hills, with changing vegetation from acacia woodland to denser thornbush. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch.
Afternoon (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM):
After lunch and check-in, visit Mzima Springs. This extraordinary natural phenomenon produces millions of litres of crystal-clear water daily, filtered through volcanic rock from the Chyulu Hills. From the underwater observation chamber, you can see hippos drifting through the shallows and Nile crocodiles motionless on ledges below the surface.
Late Afternoon (4:00 PM – 6:30 PM):
Continue with an afternoon game drive in Tsavo West's dramatic volcanic landscape. Look for lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and the rare black rhino. The park's hills, lava ridges, and thick bush offer a completely different safari experience from Amboseli's open plains.
Evening (7:00 PM):
Return to your lodge for dinner. Some lodges in Tsavo West are built near waterholes, allowing guests to watch wildlife come to drink from the dining terrace.
Day 4: Day 4: Day 4: Tsavo West – Transfer to Tsavo East – Return to Mombasa / Nairobi
Early Morning (6:30 AM – 9:00 AM):
Enjoy a final morning game drive in Tsavo West. Visit the Shetani Lava Flow for a short walking experience—this field of black basalt was erupted within the last 500 years, and local Maasai named it "Shetani" (the devil) for its otherworldly appearance. Return to the lodge for breakfast.
Late Morning (10:00 AM – 12:30 PM):
Check out and depart for Tsavo East National Park. Enter through the park's main gate and begin an en-route game drive across the vast red plains. Tsavo East is Kenya's largest national park, and its remote, untouched wilderness is a dramatic finale to your safari.
Midday – Afternoon (12:30 PM – 3:00 PM):
Stop for a picnic lunch inside the park or at a lodge. Continue with game drives in search of Tsavo East's iconic "red elephants," lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and antelopes.
Afternoon (3:00 PM – 5:00 PM):
Begin the journey back toward Mombasa or Nairobi. Your driver will drop you off at your hotel, residence, or the airport, marking the end of your safari.
