Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Day 1: Day 1: Arrival in Zanzibar – Stone Town Tour
Morning – Afternoon (Upon Arrival):
Arrive at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. Your driver-guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Stone Town.
Afternoon (2:00 PM – 5:00 PM):
Embark on a walking tour of Stone Town, the historic heart of Zanzibar. Visit the Old Fort, built by the Omani Arabs in the 17th century, and the House of Wonders – the former palace of Sultan Barghash. Wander through the narrow, winding alleyways, past intricately carved wooden doors, bustling markets, and the Darajani Market. Your guide will share stories of the island's Swahili, Persian, Indian, and European influences.
Evening (6:00 PM – 7:30 PM):
Enjoy a sunset dhow cruise along the coast. Sail aboard a traditional wooden dhow, sipping on fresh juice as the sun dips below the horizon.
Evening (8:00 PM):
Return to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Day 2: Day 2: Spice Plantation Tour & Prison Island
Morning (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM):
After breakfast, depart for a spice plantation tour. Visit a local farm where you will see, smell, and taste a variety of spices—cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, and vanilla. Learn about the cultivation and uses of these fragrant crops, and enjoy a traditional Swahili lunch prepared with fresh spices.
Afternoon (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM):
Take a boat trip to Prison Island (Changuu Island). Once a quarantine station for slaves, the island is now home to a colony of giant Aldabra tortoises. Walk among these gentle giants, some over 100 years old. Snorkel in the crystal-clear waters surrounding the island, exploring the vibrant coral reefs and tropical fish.
Late Afternoon (4:00 PM – 5:30 PM):
Return to Stone Town. Relax at your hotel or explore the local markets.
Evening (7:00 PM):
Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 3: Day 3: Day 3: Transfer to East Coast – Beach Relaxation
Morning (9:00 AM – 10:30 AM):
After breakfast, check out of your Stone Town hotel. Transfer to the east coast of Zanzibar, known for its pristine white-sand beaches and turquoise waters (approximately 1 hour drive).
Midday (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM):
Check into your beach resort. Enjoy a welcome drink and settle in.
Afternoon – Evening:
Spend the day at leisure. Relax on the powder-soft beach, swim in the warm Indian Ocean, or take a stroll along the shoreline. Optional activities include:
Snorkeling or scuba diving at nearby coral reefs
Dolphin tour (morning departures)
Jozani Forest visit to see the rare red colobus monkeys (if time permits)
Evening (7:00 PM):
Enjoy a seafood dinner at the resort, followed by traditional Taarab music (depending on the resort's schedule). Overnight at the beach resort.
Day 4: Day 4: Day 4: East Coast – Transfer to Airport – Departure
Morning (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM):
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the resort. Spend your final morning relaxing on the beach or taking a final swim in the ocean.
Midday (10:30 AM – 11:30 AM):
Check out of the resort. Transfer to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport for your onward flight back home.
Afternoon:
End of tour.
